The Edmonton Oilers have a representative going to the AHL all-star game.

The Edmonton Oilers do not have the deepest prospect pool by any stretch of the imagination. Whenever the team has boasted a top prospect - it's typically because they are a highly-touted first round pick that is NHL-ready (or really close).

The biggest examples of that being Connor McDavid, Darnell Nurse, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Oscar Klefbom are players who (mostly) became NHL regulars within two years of being drafted - with one or two exceptions.

That's why having prospects who were not drafted in the first round make the NHL team are incredible accomplishments.

Just today the AHL All-Star selections were announced for the 2024 AHL All-Star game. Raphael Lavoie of the Bakersfield Condors was selected to participate.

Lavoie is a 2019 second round draft pick (38 overall). The 6-foot-4 216lbs winger has spent the last two years playing full-time in the AHL.

During that time he has accumulated 38 goals in 117 games. This year he has increased that goal scoring production by sniping 10 goals in 20 games - a 0.5 goals per game pace.

Despite his success at the AHL level he has yet to fully translate that to the NHL. This isn't surprising - but unfortunately for him, the team can't cater to his every developmental need.

Until he cracks the Oilers lineup he will remain on the farm team, knocking down the door to opportunity when it arises.
