Earlier on Sunday November 12th, the Edmonton Oilers made a major coaching change. After a 3-9-1 start the Oilers management decided it was time for a change.
Heading out was Jay Woodcroft and assistant coach Dave Manson - with Kris Knoblauch and Paul Coffey coming in.
Kris Knoblauch.Knoblauch is entering his 18th season as a coach. He has coached in the NHL before, serving as a Philadelphia Flyers assistant coach during Dave Hakstol's tenure.
The timeline of events that led to Knoblauch's hiring is concerning.
After the Oilers loss to the San Jose Sharks, Ken Holland began his search. Holland was in conversation with Jeff Jackson the whole time, and they landed on Knoblauch.
By Saturday afternoon they had decided they would hire him. Despite this they still let Woodcroft coach the team against the Seattle Kraken.
Holland called it a "difficult decision", but it's not that difficult when it was either Woodcroft or Holland who was going to get the pink slip.
