The Edmonton Oilers just keep on winning. Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings fell victim to the high-flying Copper and Blue. The final score was a 3-2 overtime win for the Oilers.
The Oilers goal scorers were Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman and Darnell Nurse. Andrew Copp and Olli Maatta were the only Red Wings to put pucks past Calvin Pickard.
The Oilers opened the scoring in typically glorious fashion for the Oilers captain. He tagged up to avoid an offside, and then proceeded to deke around a couple Red Wings players before making Alex Lyon do the splits and tucking the puck beside his blocker-side pad.
That goal of course tied the game at 1-1 at 9:12 of the third period. McDavid doing McDavid things never disappoints.
The Oilers are now winners of nine games straight - which ties a franchise record. They have only won nine games in a row two other times. The last time was during last season, and the time before was during the 2000-01 season.

Last year's streak lasted from March 27th till April 13th. The first streak from February 20th until March 13th. Their current streak started on December 21st of 2023.
That is wild, especially when you consider the juggernaut this team was during the Wayne Gretzky years. In the 1983-84 season alone the team had three eight game winning streaks and one seven game winning streak.

The Oilers have an opportunity to extend their streak to 10 games tomorrow night against the Montreal Canadiens. What a sight it would be if they did it.
