EDMONTON – There’s no day quite like a game day, especially when special guests are in the house.
There is no official word on whether the Edmonton Oilers will have a special guest at Thursday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. However, they have a unique visitor at Morning Skate.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is skating with the team at their optional morning skate. The Oilers are playing the Jets at 7:00 P.M. Mountain Time.

EDMONTON -- It's trade deadline month.
Carney was sworn in to replace Justin Trudeau as Federal Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister of Canada. According to several prominent news outlets, Carney is in Edmonton to meet with Premiere Danielle Smith and make an announcement on housing.
Carney has a deep history with the City of Edmonton. He was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories but moved to Edmonton with his family when he was six years old.
Carney would graduate from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1983 before moving on to Harvard University. There, he would meet future Oilers’ GM Peter Chiarelli, even becoming roommates with him for a time.
In a March 2009 interview with the Edmonton Journal, Carney described his fandom of the Oilers.
“I’m an Oilers fan,” Carney stated. “I’ve followed the Oilers ever since I left. I obviously grew up in the salad days of Gretzky, Messier, and Paul Coffey, and I’ve followed them through thick and thin.”
At one point during Thursday’s Morning Skate, Carney was spotted chatting with Oilers goaltending coach Dustin Schwartz. Carney himself was the backup goaltender while attending Harvard.
We will see if the Oilers get a boost from this special visitor when the puck drops for Thursday night’s game.
