This year's rendition of the Edmonton Oilers do not want to revisit the 2-9-1 start of yesteryear.
That start spiraled into a significant coaching change and waiving Jack Campbell. They played the rest of the season with a massive chip on their collective shoulders.
They put themselves behind the eight-ball from the starting block and didn't feel like they caught up until the final buzzer of Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Final.
So yes, been there, done that, and seen the movie. Definitely don't want a sequel.
The Oilers are beginning to rewrite the narrative. It started with their second win of the season against the Nashville Predators.
Last season, their first win of the season came when they strolled out of the Music City with a victory. This year, they left with their second win, a feat that took them eight games to achieve in 2023-24.
It wasn't a pretty game, but it was an important win. It showed that they could play with a one-goal lead in the third period, a skill that will come in handy come the playoffs.

This afternoon, the Oilers have an opportunity to win their third game of the young season. Which is something they couldn't accomplish until November 11th last year.
A win today would truly afford this team the privilege of turning the page on last season.
