There was a unique presence at a Vancouver Canucks Practice earlier today.

The Edmonton Oilers will be harder on themselves than the media and fans are on them.

The long arm of the Edmonton Oilers organization extends everywhere. Todd McLellan now with the Los Angeles Kings and Steve Staios becoming the new President of Hockey Operations for the Ottawa Senators are only two individuals who have moved on.

Wayne Gretzky.Wayne Gretzky.

One player who will always be an Oiler to fans of the team, was spotted at practice for the Vancouver Canucks this morning.

As my former The Hockey News colleague points out here, Rick Tocchet is friends with Wayne Gretzky. You can see Gretzky in the tweet above, in the stands watching practice.

Given Gretzky's involvement with the (now) Arizona Coyotes the friendship makes sense. Tocchet was an assistant coach to Gretzky in his first season as head coach of the Coyotes. Tocchet moved on while Gretzky coached for another four years.
