The Edmonton Oilers put a goalie on waivers for the purpose of assignment.

The Edmonton Oilers are sick and tired of their goaltending. They know they need to turn things around in a hurry, and they were quick to make a move this morning after an abysmal outing last night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell have combined for the worst save percentage in the NHL - even worse than the winless San Jose Sharks.

    Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell.

With this in mind they decided to act this morning, by placing one of these goalies on waivers for the purpose of assignment.

Jack Campbell will be sent down to the Bakersfield Condors, provided he clears waivers. The Oilers would only be able to bury $1.15-million of his $5-million contract.

After either Calvin Pickard or Olivier Rodrigue is recalled, they only save between $375,000-$385,000 (depending on the goalie) in salary.

They have not announced a recall yet, but I expect that call to be made later today.

This is only one piece of the puzzle, and if Pickard or Rodrigue aren't recalled that could mean a trade is on the horizon.
