The department of player safety announced a fine against one of the Edmonton Oilers as a result of a dangerous play last night.

The Hockey News site editor Caleb Kerney discusses Leon Draisaitl's performance last season and how that indicates he will surpass his goal total in 2023-24.

Under their new head coach Kris Knoblauch, the Edmonton Oilers managed to win 4-1 against the New York Islanders. On the back of a fantastic performance in net from Stuart Skinner to go along with an offensive clinic put on by Leon Draisaitl.

He was feeling it from the start of the game - moving his feet extremely well and creating chances around the net all night.

There was one instance where he was too aggressive however. Unproked during the play, Draisaitl cross-checked the back of Bo Horvat's leg.

Draisaitl was issued a two minute penalty on the play for tripping. While from this angle it's obviously not a trip, he definitely deserved a penalty for his actions. That was followed up this morning with a statement from the department of player safety.

He has escaped a potential suspension and is only on the hook for a $5000 fine.
