The roster cuts for the Edmonton Oilers are beginning. With only one game of eight in the rearview, the Oilers have already cut someone from the main camp roster.
Beau Akey of the Barrie Colts has been sent back down to the OHL this morning. He had a great rookie camp and showed confidence and poise with the puck in last night's exhibition contest.

With the OHL having games starting soon, it makes sense that they sent the defender down now instead of later. He wasn't going to make the team, so there is no sense in having him stick around this season just to sit on the bench and maybe get into a game or two.
Beau Akey.Akey's focus right now needs to be playing a ton of minutes in the OHL and dominating. That confidence boost he'll get from that will be crucial to his developmental success. It also allows the Oilers to focus on the seven defencemen they want to start the season with. They need all of them to be up and running and figure out what pairings they will deploy to begin the year.
