Oilers Should Avoid Discarded Blackhawks Forward
The Edmonton Oilers are no strangers to controversy. Their interest in (and signing of) Evander Kane came under heavy scrutiny. Primarily due to the accusations levied against the power forward.
Ken Holland said at the time that the organization did their due diligence and felt comfortable signing Kane, despite the allegations.
There is one controversy they need to steer clear from, Corey Perry.
Yesterday the Chicago Blackhawks put Perry on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract - unless another team claims him off of waivers, he will be a free agent.
Sure, Perry has won the Stanley Cup while playing a prominent role as a power forward. That shouldn't mean more to an organization than how a player treats the people around him.
Regardless of what the incident in question actually is, the Oilers would be best served to avoid it entirely. They have Kane, who fills an aggressor role similar to Perry while producing more offensively. They don't need to add this onto the issues the organization is already dealing with.

Will Perry play in the NHL again? The chances are close to 50/50. But this is one bet they need to not make.
