Oilers Should Trade For Marc-Andre Fleury
Stuart Skinner had a great game for the Edmonton Oilers today. But they can't put their Stanley Cup aspirations on one goaltender. If they truly want to win, they'll need another.
Calvin Pickard can be a serviceable backup in a limited role. But the Oilers need someone who can take over the net if need be.
That's why I think the Oilers should acquire Marc-Andre Fleury.
There are three reasons why I think they should trade for him. He's been a great goalie his entire career and could use a change of scenery. He can be a great mentor and finally he can bring a positive energy to the team.
Fleury Could Use a Fresh Start
Fleury's time with the Minnesota Wild is coming to an end. He's on the last year of his contract and the team he's playing for has a top goalie prospect itching to make his mark on the NHL in Jesper Wallstedt.
He hasn't had the best year, only sporting a 3.46 goals against average (GAA) and a .876 save percentage (SV%) in nine games. Over his whole career he's averaged 2.51 GAA and .914 SV%. A change of address could help him return to form.
Fleury Could Mentor Skinner
There is something to be said about a young goalie having an experienced veteran mentor them. Jake Oettinger had Ben Bishop. Thatcher Demko had Brayden Holtby.
The wealth of experience and knowledge that a player like Fleury has is immense. That can only benefit someone like Skinner.
Fleury is a Great Person
Tonight, Fleury had a specialty mask made. In honor of Native American Heritage Night - and in honor of his wife - he wore the mask during warm-ups.

Earlier in the season he had a cool moment with a fellow French goaltender:
Recognizing the human element of the game is important, and having a guy like that on your team is huge. Every team in the league should be calling the Wild to get Fleury on their team.
