The Edmonton Oilers are not doing so hot right now. In the first 10 games of the 2023-24 season they have only won two games. They have one four game losing streak - matching their worst losing streak from last year.
The sky is not falling, but the next 10 games are crucial for the team. There are eight games until American Thanksgiving, an unofficial playoff measuring stick for NHL teams. About 76% of teams that are in a playoff position at that time stay in a playoff position.
The Oilers could be part of the 24%, but if they are they aren't setting themselves up for success. Something has to change right now.
Last night, Elliotte Friedman reported that Patrick Kane is narrowing down the list of teams that he's interested in joining. A source told The Hockey News that the Oilers and "a few others" are on Kane's list at this point.

Welcoming a new player like Kane could provide the rest of the team with a jolt. By adding another body to the top six forward group, it can (and should) wake up the personnel presently there.
Kane is said to be ready for game action in a few weeks, so this is something to monitor for the next little while. With 57 points in 73 games last season, he still has some offense left to give.
