    Oilers Remain Team to Beat.

EDMONTON—Grant Fuhr stood face-to-face with a couple of nagging problems.

Arguably the world’s finest goaltender. Fuhr passed both tests with flying colors. As a result, the Edmonton Oilers pried a couple of rather imposing monkeys from their backs.

    Let’s take this a step at a time…

This year’s first installment of the Battle of Alberta followed a pattern that has been agonizingly familiar for the Oilers over the last couple of years. Fuhr was anything but sharp on three goals during the Calgary Flames’ 5-4 win, Oct. 14.

The following day he discussed problems he had been enduring at the Northlands Coliseum.

“This is not the building you want to make a mistake in,” said the native of nearby Spruce Grove. “Do it and they remind you every time…But, that’s life.

“There are days you deserve it.”
