Jesse Puljujarvi's tenure with the Edmonton Oilers did not go according to plan. He was drafted the same summer that Peter Chiarelli traded Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils for Adam Larsson. Many thought that Puljujarvi would be able to replace the production that Hall provided the team.

Now details have come out about how this past season was for him. Puljujarvi was playing through pain the entire year. That explains why he wasn't able to finish on all the scoring chances he had. When you have an injury like this that affects your skating, that makes every game a struggle.

"I fought with my hips all last season. Yes, you could play with them, but they weren't good. I had to take care of it absolutely insanely and it also took painkillers. I gave everything I could give."

Puljujarvi had surgery earlier in the week, where a metal ball and cup were placed into his hip joints. The recovery time is said to be anywhere between six and ten months.

He didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Carolina Hurricanes. He'll become an unrestricted free agent today, which means he can sign with any team. The Swedish-born-Finnish forward had 16 points in 75 games last season between the Oilers and the Hurricanes.

If you were Ken Holland would you bring him back on an inexpensive contract?
