A former Edmonton Oilers player gets a chance to play for an Eastern Conference team.

The Edmonton Oilers are slowly slipping away from the Western Conference playoff race. A 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders last night now has the Oilers seven points shy of the final Wild Card position.

    Connor McDavid.

The Oilers need to do something to give their team a boost. Unfortunately, adding a free agent defender may be off the table.

Spotted at the Washington Capitals practice this morning was non other than Ethan Bear. It was reported over the last few days that Bear would be signing with the Capitals.

Most Oilers fans will remember how effective Bear was for the Oilers during his tenure. He spent an entire season playing with Darnell Nurse and logging an impressive amount of minutes.

After drawing the short stick in Carolina, he found himself with the Vancouver Canucks. He played there for 61 games while maintaining a top-4 role.

Depending on where the Oilers are at come the trade deadline they may look for an upgrade on their blueline. Bear is no longer an option and the team will need to look elsewhere when the time arises.
