Several Edmonton Oilers players are back in Edmonton skating at Rogers Place.
The 2023-24 hockey season has begun. While the Edmonton Oilers have yet to play a game it is still an exciting time for fans. It is officially pre-season as Captain's skates have commenced at Rogers Place.
Leon Draisaitl, Ryan McLeod, Zach Hyman, Connor McDavid and Evander Kane were a few of the Oilers seen in attendance. There were smiles all around as the excitement around this team builds for the beginning of the regular season.
There are a few questions surrounding this team heading into the season. Where will Connor Brown play? Can Evan Bouchard score 60 points? Is McDavid going to break even more records this year? Can Draisaitl hit 800 career points? Will the team be more consistent defensively? Can Jack Campbell bounce back or will he be traded at the first sign of struggle?
The team has two players signed to professional try-out contracts looking to earn a spot on the team. Will Sam Gagner or Brandon Sutter be able to stick around the team? Both will provide leadership and experience to the team if they prove that they can keep up. Gagner is coming off of hip surgery and Sutter has been battling the effects of long-Covid.
The pre-season officially kicks off on September 24th against the Winnipeg Jets at home. Until then, fans can start to prepare for what should be an entertaining and exciting season for the organization.
