The Edmonton Oilers released the roster for rookie camp attendees.
The Edmonton Oilers will participate in the yearly Young Stars classic in Penticton, British Columbia. Today the team released the roster that has been invited to the camp ahead of the fitness testing that will happen Wednesday September 13th.
Of note, there is only one goaltender and two defenceman who were invited to camp and drafted by the Oilers organization. Beau Akey was the 56th overall draft pick from the 2023 NHL Entry Draft - and Maximus Wanner was a 2021 7th round draft pick.
One of the players invited to the rookie camp was Noah Ganske - towering over most at 6-foot-7 and 210-pounds. He is a right handed defender who has spent the last three seasons playing in the NCAA. Born April 21st, 1999 he is the third oldest prospect at the Oilers rookie camp.
He has some offence to his game, as he collected 11 points in 22 games this year - leading all defenders on his team. The year previous he totalled 19 points in 22 games, tying him for the team lead in points.
It is good for the organization to have so many players attend rookie camp who they did not draft. Giving those players a shot to earn a minor league contract is a great boost to their confidence - while giving the players already in the system more competition to play against.
