Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan McLeod has filed for salary arbitration.

Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan McLeod has filed for salary arbitration.

Edmonton Oilers restricted free agent (RFA) Ryan McLeod is one of the several NHL players who have elected for salary arbitration today (July 5).

Last offseason, McLeod signed a team-friendly one-year, $798,000 contract with the Oilers. However, this time around, the 23-year-old is understandably looking for a raise.

It is important to note that McLeod and Edmonton can still agree upon a new contract before their hearing date, just like former Oilers forwards Jesse Puljujarvi and Kailer Yamamoto did last offseason. Furthermore, this arbitration filing takes away the chance of McLeod signing an offer sheet elsewhere.

McLeod is coming off of a career season, setting new career highs with 11 goals and 23 points. He also recorded five points in 12 playoff games for the Oilers. This kind of season will naturally help improve his case for a higher salary.

It will be interesting to see what McLeod's next contract with the Oilers ends up being from here.
