EDMONTON – Every game brings good and bad news.

Sometimes, it leans heavily in one direction; other times, it’s a more even split.

The Edmonton Oilers know this too well. Recently, things around the Oilers crease have gotten chaotic. Stuart Skinner is still on the shelf with an injury. Calvin Pickard has filled in admirably as the top remaining netminder, and the organization has added to its depth with the signing of Nathaniel Day.

With Olivier Rodrigue called up to the Oilers, that has left the Bakersfield Condors to call up someone from the ECHL. Enter, Brett Brochu.

Since his recall from the Fort Wayne Komets, Brochu has been fantastic. He has started five consecutive games for the Condors, including a back-to-back from this past weekend.

Brochu has a 2-3 record in those five games. Additionally, he has a 2.83 goals against average (GAA) and a .913 save percentage.

He has enjoyed a stellar season in the ECHL before his stint with the Condors. In 35 games, he has a record of 20-10-4. Brochu also has a 2.41 GAA, a .924 SV%, and one shutout.

Brochu is an undrafted prospect and currently does not have a contract with the Oilers organization. If things continue to go well for the 22-year-old netminder, he could earn himself a contract with the Oilers’ organization and supplant Colin Delia in the AHL.

Time will tell if he will be around beyond the final stretch of this season.
