The Edmonton Oilers are trying to claw their way back into the playoff picture on the highly competitive Pacific Division. The top three teams in the division all have more than 33 points.
The Edmonton Oilers are on a roll. The Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks all have 38 points and 35 points respectively. The Oilers are presently 14 points back of the Kings and Canucks.
Part of the reason for the solid beginning of the season for the Kings in particular is the resurgent play of former Oilers goalie, Cam Talbot.
Cam Talbot.Talbot was a beloved player in his tenure with the Oilers. He spent just under four seasons with the organization after his acquisition at the 2015 NHL entry draft.
His best year with the team was in 2016-17 where he finished the year with 42 wins in 73 games - which is the last time any goalie in the NHL has played more than 70 games in a single year. Additionally he had a 2.39 goals against average (GAA) to go along with a .919 save percentage (SV%).
Cam Talbot. That was a phenomenal season for Talbot and he's back to that form this year - reunited with former Oilers head coach Todd McLellan.
Talbot signed a one-year deal with the Kings in the off-season and has been nothing short of spectacular. With a 1.84 GAA and a .933 save percentage he's been a brick wall in his 17 games played this year.
Cam Talbot. He's tied for 2nd among all goalies (who have played at least 10 games) in the NHL in shutouts (2) and in wins (12). He's also second in SV% and first in GAA.
This bounce back year comes at a great time for Talbot, after he didn't have the best season last year. Since departing the Oilers he's been consistent, but seems to have found the perfect fit with the Kings.
