EDMONTON – “I think they have their B Squad in, just trying to hurt us.”
In a game that largely meant nothing, with the home team missing almost its entire top-six forward group, Phillip Danault assessed the game in between periods with the above quote.
Yikes.
The Edmonton Oilers were down 4-0 at the time, and would lose to the Los Angeles Kings 5-0. For both sides, it was a forgettable affair.

What was unforgettable was the number of penalties accumulated throughout the game. The Kings and Oilers combined for 69 penalty minutes, 53 of those minutes recorded by the home team. All of the penalties would come in the first and second periods.
During the post-game interviews, Corey Perry spoke to the media. He was asked about the comments made by Danault in the second intermission.

Perry is no stranger to the game-within-the-game. Some say, that it’s his speciality.
At any rate, these two teams are on a collision course for the first round of the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. This time, the Oilers will begin the series on the road.
The Oilers have one regular season game remaining until playoffs begin. If Monday night is any indication, this matchup is setting up to be like the fourth of July – full of fireworks.
