Who is the best Swedish born Edmonton Oilers' player of all time?
Sweden is a breeding ground for NHL talent. Some of the best players in the game have originated from the European nation. Markus Naslund, Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg are just a few names of the elite talent that has crossed the pond to play in the best league in the world.

But who are the best Swedish players to ever put on an Edmonton Oilers jersey? Here are my top five.
Jesse Puljujarvi gets an honorable mention on this list. Despite growing up in Finland he was actually born in Alvkarleby, Sweden. He was a fan favorite while with the Oilers.

Philip Broberg has many games to go to be considered a great player. But he has shown promise and poise in the limited amount of time he has spent in the NHL. With great offensive tools and developing defensive skills he could be a staple on the Oilers blue line for years to come.
Robert Nilsson only played four seasons with the Oilers. His NHL career lasted five years, but he collected 118 points in 252 games.

The great Oscar Klefbom's story is a tragic one. Drafted 19th overall in the same draft class that saw Ryan Nugent-Hopkins be selected 1st overall by the Oilers. At one point he was the point man on the power play who also played very sound defensive hockey. He was the Oilers number one defenceman until his final season in 2019-20. His contract will expire July 1st, as excessive shoulder injuries have put a halt on his very promising career.

Since his arrival at the 2022-23 trade deadline Mattias Ekholm has been everything that the Oilers need him to be. Steady, dependable and mobile he's fit like a glove alongside young defender Evan Bouchard. With three more years left on his deal, his impact on this Oilers squad will be felt for years to come.

The only goaltender to be featured on this list is the one and only Tommy Salo. In his six years with the club he provided stable goaltending which allowed them to make multiple playoff runs. He would move on to only play five more NHL games before going back overseas to finish his hockey career.
