April 18th, 1999 was the last game that Gretzky ever played. The former Edmonton Oilers' captain was playing for the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. In that game the 38-year old played 22 shifts for a total of 22:30 time on ice. He registered a single assist on the power play and contributed two shots on goal. That assist would be his 2857th point of his career, making him the only player to ever record over 2000 points.

The Great One's last goal would come almost a month earlier, on March 29th against the New York Islanders. October 20th Gretzky recorded his last point (an assist) against his first NHL team, the Oilers.
There are only two game-worn hockey jerseys to be auctioned off for more money: Paul Henderson's Summit Series jersey from 1972 ($1.3 Million) and Gretzky's 1987-88 Stanley Cup jersey ($1.452 Million). Gretzky set numerous records during his playing career, so it's no surprise to see his game-worn jersey's set records as well.
