Here is the full schedule for Team Canada for the 2025 World Junior Championship.
EDMONTON -- While the adults are away, the kids will play.
The Edmonton Oilers are the adults in this situation. They will have a Christmas break to rest and recharge from the regular season grind. Between their home game against the Ottawa Senators on December 22 and their first game back against the Los Angeles Kings on the 28th, they will have five full days off.
While they spent time with their families, the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship will kick off in earnest. Like every previous year, the competition's first game will begin on Boxing Day, December 26.
Similar to last year, pre-tournament games will begin before that time. Here is the full breakdown for Team Canada.
Pre-Tournament Games
Team Canada will play three pre-tournament games (all times are in Mountain Time):
- Thursday, December 19: Switzerland vs. Canada (5:00 PM)
- Saturday, December 21: Sweden vs. Canada (5:00 PM)
- Monday, December 23: Czechia vs. Canada (5:00 PM)
Tournament Games
Team Canada will play four games in the tournament:
- Thursday, December 26: Canada vs. Finland (5:30 PM)
- Friday, December 27: Canada vs. Latvia (5:30 PM)
- Sunday, December 29: Canada vs. Germany (5:30 PM)
- Tuesday, December 31: Canada vs. USA (6:00 PM)
Medal Round
Here are the days for all the medal-round games:
- Thursday, January 2: Quarterfinal & Relegation Games
- Saturday, January 4: Semifinal Games
- Sunday, January 5: Bronze & Gold Medal Games
Oilers Represented By Team Canada
The Oilers' top defense prospect, Beau Akey, will represent Team Canada. Akey has been playing for the Barrie Colts of the OHL this season and has scored 19 points in 25 games.
