The Red Wings will close out March with a 5-7-2 record, the fourth straight season they have a losing record in the second-last month of the season.

They're two points out of a playoff spot despite holding the first wild card spot and a three-point lead over the second wild card just a month ago.

They're a combined 17-35-5 in each of the past four seasons in March, and it's become a troubling trend.

The Red Wings are in danger of missing the playoffs for the 10th straight season, and patience is certainly running short. There's some bad luck with the Eastern Conference being much more competitive than anticipated, but much of the Red Wings' fall is of their own doing.

Can they still make the playoffs?
