Originally published April 18, 2006, longtime playoff pool expert, Murray Townsend, provides insight on his drafting system.

In the new NHL, the game has changed considerably, but in the opinion of our longtime hockey pool playoff expert, Murray Townsend, his drafting system has not, however, because it wasn’t broken in the first place. It may be old, but so are many NHL players, and most of them are working just fine.

You’ll find a repeated explanation of the system included here, but inside, we’ll look a little deeper at draft strategy.

Townsend introduces strategies for draftees 'Sleepy,' 'Doc,' and 'Happy,' and which one will fare the best in playoff pools.

It also includes the 'Best Bet' for the contending Eastern Conference squads, including Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers and Jaromir Jagr of the New York Rangers.

What a blast from the past!
