Originally published August 15, 2011, Brian Costello outlines the way fantasy hockey pools have changed over the past couple of decades.

The earliest fantasy pools didn't involve computers or fancy websites. It was usually a group of people huddled around box scores and picking players based on points.

As The Hockey News editor Brian Costello notes, only a few years after his initial fantasy league, a new rule was created and managers had to pick a rookie and a goalie

While others combed through the list of goalies and rookies, Costello played 4D chess instead, picking rookie goalie Daren Puppa, who ended up winning 17 games for the Sabres.

Who was your best sneaky pick?
