On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues and/or for daily fantasy games.
Matthew Schaefer, NYI @ COL (92% rostered) - DraftKings $5,400
Cale Makar, COL vs. NYI (100% rostered) - DraftKings $8,300
Apologies that the two players highlighted in a five-game sked play against each other in the late contest of the day, but these are the two I am profiling today. Schaefer just continues to impress, evidence of this is the Canadian Olympic team decision makers have been scouting him off his fine start. I don't think he will make the team but the mere fact he is on their radar is telling enough. The legend of Schaefer continues to grow. He became the youngest player in NHL history to score a goal in overtime, tallying Friday, besting the record held by Sidney Crosby by 31 days. Schaefer has four points his last three contests, and is up to seven goals, including two game-winners, and 15 points while adding 54 shots on net, 21 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating across 18 appearances in this his rookie season.
On the other side is Makar, who is in his seventh season of the league. Just when you think he can't get any better, he does. Makar set new personal bests in goals (30) and points (92) over 80 regular-season appearances in 2024-25 after posting 90 points this prior campaign. He already has 24 points in 18 contests this season along with a plus-16 mark. Makar is a member of the Canadian Olympic team and could very well be joined by Schaefer in four years. While his DraftKings price is high, he pretty much has been a lock to get on the scoreboard nightly.
