Three goalies to target and two to avoid as the final week of the season starts

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy hockey managers to stream, roster or utilize in standard leagues and/or DFS games. Players and goalies highlighted for streaming in standard leagues are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues.

0 games on Friday, April 10

I debated what to write about with no games Friday and 15 on Saturday. Where I landed is to note some recent goalie trends. At first, I looked at just the last 14 days, but I expanded the parameters to look at a netminder's last 10 games. Initially, I selected 20 games, but I felt that went too far back and the data would be more germane for a more recent period.

StatMuse does a great job of consolidating data, link below. I utilized the data and presenting a few bullets to keep in mind as the season enters the final week:

  • Scott Wedgewood (Colorado), splitting time in net with Mackenzie Blackwood, is 7-2-1 in his last 10 games with a ridiculous 1.54 goals-against average (GAA) and .935 save percentage. The latter two stats the best in the league in this stretch by a wide margin
  • Nashville is hanging on to the second Wild Card spot for dear life with four games left. The Predators will need Juuse Saros to be a beast down the stretch. Saros is 6-2-2 with a 2.81 GAA and .906 SV% during his last 10 appearances.
  • Dan Vladar has very quietly had a brilliant season. Signed to a two-year, $6.7 million contract by the Flyers last July with the expectation he might be the second or third goalie. Vladar is the clear to man between the pipes in Philly with his 6-3-1 record, 2.23 GAA and .906 SV% a major reason why the team is third in the Metro. But the Islanders and Blue Jackets are just one point behind with three games remaining for each team.
  • On the flip side, a goalie to avoid is Florida's Sergei Bobrovsky. The Panthers' are missing several veterans already shut down for the season. He has a 2.83 GAA and .895 SV% in this stretch, though it's very possible he stands on his head even though the Cats are aiming for more ping-pong balls.
  • Seattle has fallen apart the past several weeks, which cost them a shot to remain in the playoff hunt. a major culprit in that decline is Philipp Grubauer, so brilliant when he returned to action, but that was not sustainable. Grubauer is 2-6-2 with a 3.14 GAA and .892 SV%, look elsewhere down the stretch.
