The night after the Frozen Frenzy, where all 32 teams were in action, the NHL gave us one solitary game Wednesday,. Cayden Primeau gets the nod for Toronto while Elvis Merzlikins will be between the pipes for Columbus. Anthony Stolarz has seen nearly all the action in net for Toronto, leaving Primeau just two games out of the first 10 for the Buds. Once Joseph Woll (personal) is ready to return, Primeau will be the odd-man out. Until then, Primeau will see spot starts, like Wednesday. He has won both games he has started, recording a 3.46 goals-against average (GAA) and .875 save percentage.
On the flip side, Merzlikins once was the unquestioned starter for the Blue Jackets but Jet Greaves showed enough last season to have Daniil Tarasov traded to Florida. This season, the two goalies have all but split action. In four starts, Elvis has a 3-1-0 record, 2.96 GAA and .914 save percentage, and if both continue to play well, a timeshare should remain. In this matchup, Toronto has the better team but Columbus has the edge in net.
