
The earliest fantasy pools didn't involve computers or fancy websites. It was usually a group of people huddled around box scores and picking players based on points.
As The Hockey News editor Brian Costello notes, only a few years after his initial fantasy league, a new rule was created and managers had to pick a rookie and a goalie.
While others combed through the list of goalies and rookies, Costello played 4D chess instead, picking rookie goalie Daren Puppa, who ended up winning 17 games for the Sabres.
