Florida ended its three-game homestand with consecutive losses in which they scored a total of one goal

Black Friday at Amerant Bank Arena brought an uncharacteristic loss by the Florida Panthers.

Florida struggled to generate much in terms of sustainable offensive pressure, dropping a frustrating game to the Winnipeg Jets by a 3-0 margin.

It was the final test of a three-game, holiday week homestand in which Florida managed to pick up only two of a possible six points.

Afterwards, the game was dismissed as a bit of an aberration, so lets jump right into THN Florida’s three takeaways, which follow along the same thread.

    Just a blah night

Whether it be on the rush, in the zone or building off turnovers and takeaways, the Panthers failed to generate and sustain much of anything against Winnipeg.

Afterwards, there wasn’t a lot Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice could say after watching his team appear to skate in mud all night.

“There wouldn’t be a specific thing,” Maurice said. “We were behind our game considerably for the entire night.”

    A one-time deal?

The next logical question would be whether whatever went wrong with Florida on Friday had more to do with something specific they were or weren't doing, or if it was just Winnipeg imposing their game incredibly well.

Maurice tried placing the blame for Friday’s performance on his own shoulders while indicating that whatever went wrong wouldn’t be an issue moving forward.

“I thought Lomberg and Gadjovich got on the body, they were alright. The rest of them were about as good as I was, because I couldn't figure out what we were trying to do out there, so we'll fix that in a couple days,” Maurice said.

    Thanksgiving hangover

Ultimately that’s what Maurice said it may have boiled down to.

Were the Jets pretty amped up to get their head coach, Rick Bowness, back behind the bench? Surely.

Did it show in the way they played? Not really.

Florida just didn’t bring it, and perhaps it was due to a turkey day hangover.

“There’s factors, right? Not excuses,” Maurice said. “There’s no excuse. We were horseshit tonight. A factor is they got fired up. I think there's 15 games tonight, 13 other road teams are going to win because there's too much turkey eating by the home team. We brought a few drumsticks out into the ice tonight.”
