Helmet stickers honoring both men will be worn by all 32 NHL teams this season
The new NHL season will begin in a few days across North America, and while its always an occasion to celebrate, there will be a sadness felt by many of its players.
Friends and family members of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau are still mourning their shocking and tragic deaths.
The brothers were struck by a drunk driver while bicycling in southern New Jersey the night before their sister’s wedding.
There has been an outpouring of love and support to the Gaudreau family in the days and weeks since.
The NHL announced that all 32 NHL teams will wear a helmet sticker honoring the brothers, with their hockey numbers, 13 and 21, surrounding the letter “G”.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have also announced that their home opener will not be a traditional Opening Night, but rather one focused on honoring Johnny and Matthew.
That night they will be hosting the Florida Panthers, and both teams will wear special No. 13 jerseys with the name Gaudreau on the back.
Afterwards, the jerseys will be signed by the players and made available through an auction and a raffle, with all proceeds benefiting the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation.
