The Florida Panthers were given some love in an untraditional place this weekend.
A Major League Baseball game.
That’s because this weekend MLB is holding its annual Players’ Weekend, which allows players the opportunity to use customized bats and cleats.
While there are several South Floridians who have made their way to the show, one of them is taking the opportunity to show off his fandom for his hometown Cats.
Baltimore Orioles infielder Coby Mayo is from Coral Springs and has seen his fair share of Panthers games.
Mayo was drafted by Baltimore in 2020, while he was still attending Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
The Orioles are in Houston for Players’ Weekend, and that’s where Mayo showed off his custom Cats cleats on the team’s social media account.
“For Players’ Weekend, my close friends and family know how much I love the Florida Panthers, and obviously winning back-to-back Stanley Cups, I thought it would be a cool idea to get some Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup cleats,” Mayo said. “My whole life, I have been a huge fan. I just think it would be cool to represent just a part of me that maybe not everybody knows.”
The cleats are quite cool looking. The left one features the Panthers crest logo and the right one has a Stanley Cup patch on the side.
Mayo must have liked the fit, because he hit what ended up being the game-winning home run on Friday night as Baltimore defeated the Astros 7-0.
