Florida Panthers - Florida Panthers AGM Brett Peterson named general manager of 2024 U.S. Men's National Team

The 2024 IIHL World Championships will be taking place in Czechia next May.

While the tournament is still half a year away, this is the time where hockey programs are starting to build the foundations of what will eventually be their respective teams.

On Thursday, USA Hockey announced that Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Brett Peterson had been named general manager of the 2024 U.S. Men’s National Team.

“We are really excited to have Brett as the general manager of our men’s national team,” US Hockey assistant executive director of hockey operations John Vanbiesbrouck said in a statement. “He has done a terrific job in helping build the Florida Panthers, and his extensive knowledge of the overall player pool in our country will be really beneficial in putting together our team for the world championship.”

Peterson is in his fourth season with the Panthers after joining the team in 2020 as Florida General Manager Bill Zito, who was hired that September, began building his front office.

Zito previously served as GM for Team USA during the 2018 World Championships and remains part of the U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group, which will assist Peterson in putting together the tournament roster.

Another Panthers assistant GM, former goaltender and Pro Hockey Hall of Famer Roberto Luongo, won a gold medal while serving as GM for Team Canada at the 2021 World Championships.

Peterson has done an exceptional job since joining the Panthers, helping to build a deep, talented, perennial playoff team that is known around the league for having an incredible vibe of camaraderie in the locker room.

The 2024 World Championships will take place in in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia from May 10-26.
