Zito was a bat boy on the Brewers 1982 team that went to the World Series
The Milwaukee Brewers did something pretty cool over the weekend, inviting a former bat boy from their 1982 American League Championship team back to throw a ceremonial first pitch.
That bat boy has actually made quite a career for himself in professional sports, though not in baseball.
It was early Sunday afternoon when Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito strolled out to the pitcher's mound at American Family Field before Milwaukee was set to host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
"We are thrilled to welcome back to Milwaukee a former Brewers bat boy," Brewers Public Address Announcer Mark Richards said. "He now serves as the general manager for the defending Eastern Conference Champion Florida Panthers of the NHL and credits former Brewers GM Harry Dalton for inspiring his career path."
Catching Zito's pitch was current Brewers Manager and longtime family friend Craig Counsell, both of whom were around the team during the 82' World Series run.
Counsell gave a friendly wave from behind the plate and Zito smiled as he wound up and delivered a strike, by ceremonial first pitch standards.
The two actually hung out before the game in Counsell's office along with with longtime Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker.
