The Florida Panthers have made another move toward shoring up the depth of their NHL roster.

On Wednesday, Florida signed forward Jesse Puljujarvi to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 and then placed him on waivers.

Once he passes through waivers, Puljujarvi will be eligible to join Florida's NHL roster.

Puljujarvi is a former fourth overall pick who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Edmonton Oilers before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes two seasons ago.

He spent the past two seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and had three goals and nine points in 26 games in 2024-25 before the Pens placed him on waivers in late December.

Puljujarvi was assigned to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and then on Feb. 8 Pittsburgh placed him on unconditional waivers with the purpose of mutually terminating his contract.

Soon after, Puljujarvi signed an AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers, Florida's American League affiliate.

He's racked up three assists on 22 shots in seven games with the Checkers, acclimating himself to the five-man defensive systems that the organization runs in order to prepare himself for a potential shot back in the NHL.

That time may now be coming for the 26-year-old.

With the NHL Trade Deadline coming up on Friday, don't be surprised to see Florida make another move or two over the next few days as the team bulks up for another run at winning the Stanley Cup.

How and where Puljujarvi fits into those plans remains to be seen, but we'll find out soon enough.
