On June 26, the Florida Panthers traded forward Justin Sourdif to the Washington Capitals. Now, he has gotten more big news.
The Capitals have announced that they have signed Sourdif to a two-year, $1.65 million contract. Starting next season, the former Panthers forward will carry a $825,000 cap hit for the Capitals.
This is a nice bridge deal for Sourdif to land from the Capitals. His goal from here will be to cement himself a spot in the Capitals' lineup and break out at the NHL level.
This change of scenery certainly provides Sourdif with a golden opportunity, as he should have a better shot of making the Capitals' roster than he would have if he had stayed on the Panthers. It is no secret that the Panthers' forward depth is incredibly strong, and that blocked Sourdif from getting many chances on Florida's roster because of it.
It is going to be very interesting to see how Sourdif performs with the Capitals after landing this two-year deal. The potential for him to blossom into a solid NHLer is certainly there, and it is why the Panthers were able to get such a good return for him.
