Las Vegas police arrested 33-year-old Matthew DeSavio around five hours before Tuesday's game between Florida and Vegas

Authorities in Nevada thwarted a potential mass shooting at the Stanley Cup Finals, law enforcement officials announced on Thursday.

According to ESPN, citing a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report, 33-year-old Matthew DeSavio was arrested Tuesday afternoon, just hours before Game 5 between the Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights.

According to the report, several people contacted the police regarding threats that DeSavio allegedly made, both in text messages and on Facebook.

In one of the posts, DeSavio said he planned to conduct a shooting that would rival the Mandalay Bay massacre of 2017 in which 60 people were killed and several hundred were wounded.

Police arrested DeSavio at a Las Vegas business around noon Tuesday.

He faces several charges, including threatening an act of terrorism or mass destruction.
