After Wednesday's physical and emotional game, the NHL Department of Player Safety has issued fines to Florida Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk and Ottawa Senators' Nick Cousins.
It was a rowdy affair on Wednesday, as the Ottawa Senators welcomed back Brady Tkachuk.
The Florida Panthers winger was booed all night, faced several chants, and had plenty of scuffles with former teammates. Tkachuk finished with one goal, three shots on goal, six hits, six penalty minutes, and a minus-2 rating in 13:13 of ice time as the Panthers lost 5-1.
The game saw a combined 84 penalty minutes, and although no one on either team received a suspension, the NHL's Department of Player Safety handed out a pair of fines.
Panthers' Matthew Tkachuk has been fined $5,000 for roughing, while former Panthers forward and current Senators winger Nick Cousins was fined $4,091.49 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Matthew Tkachuk also finished with six penalty minutes, one assist, and five hits in 17:29 of ice time.
As for Cousins, he received 14 penalty minutes, including a 10-minute misconduct, two shots on goal, and four hits in 8:03 of ice time.
The game was emotional and physical, and given the circumstances, it was unsurprising to see things boil over like this.
The Panthers and Senators will meet again three more times this season, with the next encounter set for Nov. 25 in Florida.
