Original voice of Florida Panthers Jeff Rimer honored Saturday ahead of retirement

On Saturday the Columbus Blue Jackets honored long time play by play voice Jeff Rimer as he will retire at the end of the season.

Rimer was the original play by play voice of the Florida Panthers. He held this job from team’s inaugural seasons in 1993 until 2004.

During the 2004 lockout, former Panthers Coach and at the time Blue Jackets General Manager Doug MacLean convinced Rimer to leave the sunshine state for Columbus, but that in no way takes away from his impact in South Florida.

Rimer was the voice of the Panthers for the 1996 Stanley Cup appearance as well as the “Pavel Bure years”. Until last season, those would be the most memorable years in Panther’s history, and he was the play-by-play voice narrating those seasons/moments for day one Panther fans.

Rimer has always been a class act and it was a nice touch to see a Panthers jersey hanging behind him during the ceremony in Columbus.

This has been a season the Blue Jackets would rather forget. From the Mike Babcock saga to poor play on the ice it has just not gone well for Columbus, so it was nice to see the season wind down on a somewhat positive note.

Kudos to John Davidson and the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for giving him the proper send off.

Congratulations to Jeff Rimer on a great career and all the best in retirement.
