During Game 1 between the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes, Shayne Gostisbehere intentionally shot the puck at Brad Marchand. This was shortly after Marchand threw a hard hit on the Hurricanes defenseman.
After being hit by the puck by Gostisbehere, Marchand immediately skated at the Hurricanes blueliner and dropped the gloves. For this, Marchand was given two minor penalties for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct penalty. Gostisbehere only received a two-minute minor for roughing on the play.
Following the game, Gostisbehere was honest about the incident and noted that he shot the puck at Marchand on purpose.
"I was pretty pissed off," Gostisbehere said to The Hockey News' Ryan Henkel. "He tried to take a run at me. I shot the puck at him. It is what it is. Had a little tussle."
Now, after being asked by the Miami Herald's Jordan McPherson about the Gostisbehere incident, Marchand chose not to say much on the matter.
"I'm not much of a thinker," Marchand said. "I don't have much thought on the situation."
Clearly, Marchand is more focused on getting the Panthers a win in Game 2 than on what occurred between him and Gostisbehere in Game 1. However, when noting that No. 63 is never afraid of the physical side of the game, it would not be all that surprising if he continues to play with an edge in Game 2.
Marchand has three goals, nine assists, 46 penalty minutes, and a plus-11 rating in 13 games with the Panthers so far this post-season.
