In a slew of injury news, Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice has provided updates on a pair of young, skilled forwards.
Anton Lundell missed Friday’s 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames with what’s currently known as an undisclosed injury. It was the fifth game Lundell has missed this season due to injury.
As the Panthers took the ice today for practice, Lundell was absent.
“We’ll list him as day to day,” said Maurice of Lundell. “He’s not good enough to be on the ice yet. He’s getting looked at. We don’t think there’s much there, but he’s not ready to play. We need to minimize it.”
The Panthers have returned from their four-game road trip, picking up just one win. Their first game back will be on Tuesday when they host the Seattle Kraken. While Lundell hasn’t been ruled out just yet, it’s very likely he won’t dress for Tuesday’s encounter.
We can confirm that Mackie Samoskevich will be out of the lineup. The 23-year-old suffered a bad laceration against the Edmonton Oilers, which also forced him to miss Friday’s game.
Maurice has provided a timeline for Samoskevich, stating it will be at least 7-10 days. If Samoskevich’s timeline is 10 days, there is a chance the skilled winger misses six games.
Although Samoskevich’s goal-scoring has struggled this season, he’s continued to develop, setting a career high in assists. If it weren’t for his abysmal 4.3 shooting percentage, there’s a strong chance he could have set a career high in points as well.
As for Lundell, he is on the cusp of setting new career highs. He’s currently even with his previous high of 18 goals, and is one point shy of tying his career high in points of 45.
The sooner he returns, the quicker he can best those highs and extend on what has been a strong individual season for the 24-year-old.
