Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports - Sasha Barkov named Panthers nominee for 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy

There is no question that Sasha Barkov is the leader of the Florida Panthers.

The unassuming star has been the driving force of the Panthers since making his NHL debut as an 18-year-old rookie in 2013.

Five years later he was selected as the franchise's 10th captain. He's the player Florida has built its current core around, and long considered the most underrated two-way center in the league.

Barkov is a lead-by-example kind of guy, but don't let his quiet demeanor fool you. He's got an sneaky-funny personality and is liked and respected by each and every one of his teammates.

    He's genuine.

On Tuesday, Barkov was recognized by his teammates for what he does for the team, and the community, on and off the ice.

Barkov is the Panthers nominee for the 2022-23 King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

Each nominee for all 32 NHL teams were selected by their respective teams.

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is presented “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

The first-place finisher will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of his choice. The two runners-up each will receive a $5,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice.

Barkov has been working with Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital for several seasons.

He donates $1,600 for every goal he scores and $800 for every assist, with the money going to benefit the children who are being treated at the Hollywood pediatric facility and their families.

Over his three seasons working with the hospital, Barkov has donated over $200,000.

In addition, Barkov purchases and donates a suite at FLA Live Arena for each Panthers home game to the hospital so that patients and the families, as well as doctors, nurses and other caretakers can enjoy attending games in a comfortable, controlled setting.

Barkov was also nominated by the Panthers last season.
