Koepka calls himself a 'dedicated' Panthers fan, Ekblad says they'll 'never' be friends

Jason Mowry-USA TODAY Sports - 'We're not buddies': Aaron Ekblad, Brooks Koepka speak about viral parking cone video

Last week during the Florida Panthers home game against the New York Rangers, professional golfer Brooks Koepka was seen hurling insults at defenseman Aaron Ekblad.

Cellphone recordings showed Koepka holding a large orange parking cone while yelling obscenities at Ekblad.

On Wednesday, Ekblad was asked about what happened.

He told Sportsnet’s Luke Fox that he doesn’t know Koepka and that he didn’t foresee the two breaking bread any time soon.

“We’re not buddies,” Ekblad told Fox. “(We’ll) never be buddies.”

Videos of Koepka’s antics can be seen below. They were taken by @David954FLA and posted on Twitter.

Koepka also addressed the viral video on Wednesday when speaking to Matt Vincenzi of Action Network.

“I did not bring the cone,” Koepka told Vincenzi. “He gave up a bad goal. It was a bad pass in the third (period). I’m a die-hard Panthers fan and he gave up a bad goal.”

Koepka was at the game with a group of friends. They dressed up in track suits as their way of taking part in that night’s theme, Italianfest.

The friends even posted for a group photo that Koepka posted on Instagram.

Koepka admitted that he was “hydrated” during the game, though he probably wasn't referencing water.

“Yeah, he gave up a bad goal I think midway through the third, and I just felt like if they didn’t win that game, they weren’t going to make the playoffs," Koepka said.

    “(I’m a) dedicated fan, man.”
