THN Florida's Five Favorite series sits down with Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues
After a successful launch earlier this month, we’re diving back for another installment of THN Florida’s Five Favorites!
If you’re asking what the Five Favorites series is, here’s a quick reminder.
In keeping with the idea of learning more about the Florida Panthers, we’re going to different players on the team and asking them each a group of questions about their favorite things.
The first player we spoke to was Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad.
This time we caught up forward Evan Rodrigues after a recent Florida practice. Here’s what he had to say.
Favorite pre-NHL hockey memory: Probably either winning The Beanpot (with Boston University in 2015) or winning The Brick Tournament in Edmonton. (The Brick Tournament?) Yeah, it's in Edmonton, played during the summer inside the mall for when you're like 9 or 10 years old. You spend a whole week at the West Edmonton Mall, going on the water slides and bumper cars and laser tag, doing it all week and then winning that was pretty cool. It was also my first time on a plane going out there, so that was a big one.
Favorite pregame pump-up song/music: I mix it up. Usually its whatever gets me in a good mood. Some days its rap, some days its EDM, some days its just happy hits…just whatever picks up my mood. Usually when I'm playing the best, I'm in a good mood.
Favorite away rink to play at: Boston. Just living there and playing there, it's cool. My in-laws are from there and I just have a lot of memories in that building. I also like Montreal. Good ice, and I seem to play pretty well every time I go in there, and it's got a good atmosphere.
(counting the next two favorites as one)
Favorite non-hockey hobby: Golf. Well, it used to be. Now playing with my kids is probably my favorite thing, playing different sports and stuff like that.
Favorite hockey movie: The Mighty Ducks. I watched it as a kid all the time, and now I watch it with my son. It's just a classic.
Favorite player growing up: Probably (Alexander) Mogilny. I watched him play on the Leafs and just liked his skill. Him and (Marcus) Naslund, I liked the fact that they were some of the earliest guys that played on their off-wing and were very dynamic. When Vancouver had the line of Naslund, (Brendan) Morrison and (Todd) Bertuzzi, they were probably one of my favorites.
