Defenseman Lucas Carlsson has had quite a year with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.
The 25-year-old entered Friday’s game at Lehigh Valley tied for the league-lead among rearguards with 19 goals and second with 52 points.
Both of those numbers represent new Checkers franchise records as well.
On Thursday, Carlsson was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team.
According to the Checkers, it’s just the fifth time in franchise history a Charlotte player has earned a postseason All-Star Team selection, following Jake Bean, Alex Nedeljkovich, Andrew Poturalski and Zach Boychuck.
During his two years with the organization, Carlsson has played 68 games with the Checkers and 42 games with the Panthers.
In addition to his offensive output, Carlsson has been a veteran presence on a Charlotte team that has seen its share of youth come in and out of the lineup this season.
His on-ice contributions are easy to spot, but it's what he's done off the ice that has really opened some eyes in Charlotte, and perhaps in Sunrise as well.
Carlsson will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
