Panthers players were asked to select personalized goal songs this year

This season the Florida Panthers switched things up with their in-arena goal songs.

For several years, the team had been using “Sweetness” by Jimmy Eat World as the tune that played after every Panthers goal.

Entering the 2022-23 season, the powers that be decided to try something different.

Each Panthers player would select their own goal song to be played any time they put the biscuit in the basket on home ice.

Why should baseball players be the only ones that get to pick their own music?

Well, the Panthers decision to do personalized goal songs was met with mixed reviews from fans, though to be fair, the aging speakers inside FLA Live Arena made the non-obvious songs difficult for some of us to decipher.

The reactions to hearing some of the songs for the first time were great, like Sasha Barkov’s choice of “I’m So Excited” by The Pointer Sisters or when Ryan Lomberg switched his jam to “Oops I Did It Again” by Britney Spears.

As the year went on, I did my best to keep a running list of Florida’s goal song playlist. It may not be perfect, but with the season now over, here is the final count:

Aaron Ekblad: Move Your Body – Öwnboss

Colin White: Shout! – The Isley Brothers

Radko Gudas: It’s a Long Way to the Top – ACDC

Sam Bennett: Bennie and the Jets – Elton John

Eric Staal: Another One Bites the Dust – Queen

Sam Reinhart: Macarena – Los Del Rio

Josh Mahura: Takin’ Care of Business – Bachman-Turner Overdrive (changed from A Real Life by Greek Fire)

Anton Lundell: Barbra Streisand – Duck Sauce

Matthew Tkachuk: The Chucky Song – Simon Stokes

Nick Cousins: Rich Flex – Drake, 21 Savage

Carter Verhaeghe: Turn My Swag On – Soulja Boy

Eetu Luostarinen: Samba De Janeiro – Bellini

Ryan Lomberg: Oops!...I Did It Again – Britney Spears (changed from Mercy by Kanye West)

Gus Forsling: Gimmie! Gimmie! Gimmie! – ABBA

Brandon Montour: It’s Still Rock n Roll to Me – Billy Joel

Marc Staal: That’s the Way (I Like It) – KC and The Sunshine Band

Sasha Barkov: I’m So Excited – The Pointer Sisters

An honorable mention goes to Chris Tierney, who was claimed off waivers by Montreal in late February. His goal song was spectacular, in my humble opinion.

Chris Tierney: Roxanne – The Police
