Historically, home teams have gone 12-5 in Stanley Cup Final Game 7s. There have been two occurrences in which a Cup Final Game 7 has gone to overtime. Both times it was the Detroit Red Wings winning at home, beating the New York Rangers in 1950 and the Montreal Canadiens in 1954. Four times have Stanley Cup Final Game 7s ended with a shutout, with the last occurrence happening in 2011 when Tim Thomas and the Boston Bruins blanked Vancouver 4-0. In their history, Edmonton has played in two Stanley Cup Final Game 7s. They beat the Philadelphia Flyers in 1987 and lost to Carolina in 2006. There have been three times in which an NHL franchise earned its first Stanley Cup by winning a Game 7: St. Louis in 2019, Carolina in 2006 and Tampa Bay in 2004. Now we’ll see how this one plays out. Either way, there will be some history made Monday night in Sunrise.
