On Saturday morning, it was reported by MayorsManor that Los Angeles Kings goalie Phoenix Copley had undergone season ending surgery.

This was then confirmed later in the day by Kings PR.

This means that David Rittich will be the Kings' backup for the foreseeable future behind Cam Talbot.

Like Copley last season, Rittich was brought in over the summer to be an insurance policy in case of injury and that insurance policy is paying off here.

Rittich is a goalie with plenty of NHL experience and provides the Kings with a solid backup.

The dropoff between Rittich to Copley, if there is one, is small. The Kings are still in a good spot after this injury.

This injury has a bigger impact on the Ontario Reign, who were relying on Rittich to split time with youngster Erik Portillo.

Now, without Rittich, they need someone to split time with Portillo.

Young goalie Jacob Ingham had been called up after Rittich was originally sent to the Kings.

To Ingham's credit, he's been solid in his only two starts, but it appears the organization wants some more experience in net.

In the same report from MayornsManor, it was revealed that Aaron Dell has been signed to a PTO.

Dell is an experience goalie with over 260 professional starts, split between the NHL and AHL, under his belt.

If he's signed, he'll bring a lot of stability into a young goalie group for the Reign.

The other big impact this has is on the Kings' cap situation.

When Viktor Arvidsson comes back from injury, the Kings will be back in a cap-crunch situation.

However, having Copley on LTIR now will give them a little bit of breathing room.

The Kings will continue relying heavily on Cam Talbot in net, who was recently voted into his first career All-Star game.
